- COVIRNA is part of COVID19_OMICS which is an observational, prospective study conducted by IRCCS Policlinico San Donato that provides the evaluation of circulating biomarkers predicting the clinical evolution in patients with COVID-19.

- Description of Cohorts
- PSD unit has been recruiting COVID-19 patients starting from March 2019 during the first pandemic outbreak. Patients were admitted to the COVID-19 ward or to intensive care units and blood was harvested within 7 days after admission. Samples were processed, divided in aliquots and stored at -80 °C in the PSD biobank according to BMRI guidelines. The Biobank also keep record of the signed patient consensus forms. Platelet poor plasma (PPP) samples were then transferred to Firalis. Sample/data couples were anonymized before shipping. The cohort main characteristics are: 63% males, age 67.74±11.49 (median years±SD), 40% intubated, 25% required O2 therapy, 24% CPAP in ward; 11% displayed mild disease, 25% died and 75% were eventually discharged. The main comorbidities were: T2DM 20%, obesity 19% and hypertension 54% of the cases .
